Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns from the Civil War, in which he fought for the Confederacy, home of his brother Aaron in rural North Texas. Shortly after his arrival, a Comanche raid leaves his brother, his sister Martha, and his nephew, Ben, all dead, and his two nieces, Lucy and Debbie, kidnapped and burned down the homestead.
