The Little Foxes

What is the theme of the Four Little Foxes by Lew S? (I do not remember how to spell his name) and also, Who is the President of the poem?

The narrator of the poem is Lew Sarrett, the author. In the poem the mother was caught in a trap, so it's pretty obvious that the little foxes will die. It is a sad poem, if the theme could be compassion, something most people feel after reading this poem. Or the theme could be unfairly or life can be hard and how much a part of life is death. There is a very thin line sometimes.
