Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Todd is a character who has been present in literature, movies, urban legends, and plays since the late 1800s. The stories told usually follow the same basic structure of a madman who dumps barber murders of his clients with a razor, and then in a pit below his shop where the bodies are turned into meat pies by his partner in crime, love, friend or simply depending on the version, Mrs. Lovett.
If this legend came, nobody really knows for sure, but the best guess has always been that Mr. Todd first appeared in a penny dreadful, the equivalent of a 1800s pulp magazine.
In 1979, a musical based on the legend was created. The musical, titled Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, has been widely acclaimed. The musical's broader history. In this interpretation, Todd started as a barber, Benjamin Barker, who is married to his wife Lucy with a little girl, Johanna.
The lecherous Judge Turpin, who is jealous of Barker's life, he was jailed in Australia while Turpin causes of death of life and Barker took his daughter. Having escaped, Barker creates a new identity of Sweeney Todd, as he returns to his old home, he meets Mrs. Lovett, a meat pie baker who makes the worst meat pies in London.
As Todd seeks revenge, he puts up a Mrs. Lovett to use the bodies of his victims for her meat pies, which quickly became the biggest food sensation in London.
In 2007, the musical was turned into a film starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman, directed by Tim Burton. This version of history is reflected very well the big screen with Depp give one of his best performances with Todd Bonham Carter is great as Mrs. Lovett.
The film remains very faithful to the music and the stars show their great singing ability. The film even managed to win the Golden Globe for best film (musical / comedy).
The cast of the film play off each other very well and it is crucial to make it work. In fact, perhaps the only problem might be found with the film is that there are some scenes that seem to go fast, and ending before the public realizes that it is the end yet. Otherwise, Sweeney Todd is a great addition to the long list of Tim Burton movies bizarre.
