What is the best program for Internet security circles? For years ive managed to get by using a free version of AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy but for now my PC is full of Trojans. despite quarantine etc. I get the warniing Horse sameTrojan daily.
Now I think it's time to get a firewall purchased / anti-virus software. Ive been watching the publishing Norton Internet Security Minister

Any recommendations?
There is no "best security program." They all miss things because virus scanners are reactionary. There is always a delay between when a threat is identified and antivirus vendors have had time to analyze it and find a way to remove it.
I found that the best approach is to use many different programs as possible, exchanging installed antivirus software alternatives from time to time, especially if something seems wrong. What we lack of program, another will usually find.
Try Malwarebytes independently save scanner as he found things on my hard drive failed by Spybot and vice versa.
There is a very good free anti virus product - ThreatFire, which has been specially designed to work with most security products and is not intended to be used as the sole method of protection. It will not clean an already infected system, but it will block almost all future infections, even if they are zero-day (unknown) threats. I used it myself for months.

It is designed to complement your existing security software - not to replace it.
Is it better to use one in a single security product? Or a range of products stand alone? You can read this:

So you decide!
Other scanners can be used to double or even triple check whether something has been missed by security software installed without the need to remove or disable it:

Another way to keep malware at a distance is to ensure that your software is updated, but especially to remove the files from the old insecurity automatic updates are often not removed. I use Secunia PSI (free) and it is very good even if it does not cover all the software ever released. If you choose to use it to keep an eye on the list of programs detected that patched and update or delete it, then install only the latest versions of everything that has failed.
An example of how it works:

Secunia will automatically warn you if a program needs to be updated.
