Requiem For A Dream - A brilliant film It is such a brilliant film, that haunts long after it has seen, and is a timeless and unforgettable piece of art.
What with its violence, graphic and sometimes explicit scenes, and a very honest look so sad what addiction and loneliness can do to life, not a movie for everyone . Divided into three parts strong, its symbolic significance can not be ignored.
Aptly titled "Requiem for a Dream", it depicts the lives of four ambitious people basically good, whose life is destroyed as their drug addiction spirals out of control. Thus, confronted with the fact that all of their ambitions broken, a requiem for them is necessary to pay tribute, and comes in the form of the cup clean and technically astonishing film.
The three parties are "summer", "Winter" and "autumn", showing the gradual deterioration of their mental and physical, to the bottom of things, and how.
A film ruthless in this sense because it does not hide anything with the help of representations of the penitent and pink rehabilitated former drug reform, its vivid representation of the fall of each individual and his wonderful soundtrack, it is extremely memorable although some scenes are so graphic that you may want to protect your eyes a bit if you're not too bold.
The veteran actress Ellen Burstyn plays Sarah Goldfarb, a Jewish widow who lives alone and is very lonely. His ambition is to get on his favorite television game show wearing a red dress, which is especially a vestige of its glorious past. In her desperation to lose weight, it goes to a doctor's clinic where she is manipulated into the habit of pills and food, which makes her restless and hyperactive and also make him lose weight.
However, as its dependence accelerates out of his
control his descent into madness is precipitated. Even if she manages to fit into her dress and constantly hallucinates about herself being on the show thought, his hyperactivity and loneliness, which he eats from the inside, causing its eventual fall.
His son, Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto) and his best friend Tyrone Love (Marlon Wayans) are addicted to a lifestyle of high-flying laced with drugs and pleasure and taste of what we call success in the first of the film. Later, however, a lot of violence in March and inconvenience of their lives, even as they struggle to acquire the drugs once easily accessible.
Harry's girlfriend, Marion, played by Jennifer Connelly, is also a young woman who is deeply into drug addiction. The dynamics of the relationship shared by Harry and Marion changes in the various stages in the film, happy to plaintive and sad one as money runs out for their essential medicines.
In telling this story, Aronofsky out all the stops and starts all technical aspects of cinema audience in the form of slow motion, fast forward, fantasy sequences and close-ups of drug dilated pupils characters.
In recognition of the brilliance of the film, he was nominated for an Oscar and won 19 awards and 30 other nominations. In a fascinating representation of how Sarah gets mad, Harry loses his arm, Tyrone finds himself in prison and Marion enters prostitution, "Winter" eventually give you chills.
However, as mentioned above, there is no concealing the facts and not descriptions of pink in this austere film, but there is always a human touch in relatable characterization and narration of history. Watching "Requiem For A Dream" has been a deeply rewarding and powerful experience for most people who have and it says a lot of film. The illusions that dependence brings with itself is difficult to shake, and this is maximized in a remarkably efficient in this supreme model of good cinema.
