Why not make Jerusalem an international civilized and governed open city? There. Problem solved? To solve some problem of a Palestinian state, why not give them land, and also make Jerusalem an open city? Have it monitored by an international force, governed by the UN (or something like that) and have rights for all people of all denominations who choose to live?

The Arab countries do not go for it, and the UN is a joke anyway.
Give twenty years, and this is precisely what happens.
The city is too important for religions too much for one nation to admit it.
The UN is not strong enough to enforce it. Otherwise, I would agree. Probably, the U.S. military could do it. I want to see my security guarantee for me to go to Bethlehem too.
This idea has been thrown on before - in fact, even in the original partition plan, but the Israelis and the Arabs are against him and no country in the world is ready to throw it in the middle forces of this quagmire.
