The dark night of the soul - Gateway One Higher Consciousness "In the dark night of the soul, bright flows the river of God."
- St. John of the Cross
He was a Carmelite monk in the 16th century, St John of the Cross, who wrote a thesis titled poem "Dark Night of the Soul." The text speaks of the holy mystical development and the steps he is subjected to its difficult journey towards union with God. The term has since been used for such a cathartic journey of self discovery.
The dark night of the soul is a deeply disturbing experience intense suffering which arises at a level never experienced before. hopelessness can continue for days, weeks or even years. Meanwhile, we have the feeling of being abandoned by God or the Universe, and feel great anxiety and internal void. Life can seem to offer any assurance whatsoever, no matter how "good" things, he is out. It might even be thought that one is going crazy, and there is simply no way out, no way. There could be much more afraid of whether the future will continue to be dark this way. Black night is not just another low period in life, it is the lowest of the low, it is as if there is no way to hide or duck situation. The intensity of the misery that is known is an extremely low, where the individual can be considered insignificant, alone, empty and defeated.
The most important thing to understand right now is the best, a spiritual sense this situation. There is a hidden purpose for him. In these moments of darkness is touching the Divine and to cleanse us. This can certainly be difficult to see and that is why aid should be sought. It is very difficult for a human to see the light in the night by himself.
The nature of human beings is such that it is often at the last moment, when things have reached an extreme point, we summon the strength and endurance to do what is necessary for our own well-being and happiness . Therefore, it is not surprising that for some people the dark night of the soul occurs. Would we hear otherwise? Have we fully listened to this when things have gone wrong? Thus, with the depths of pain that brings the dark, it becomes much more difficult to escape the pain.
During the night, we are invited to learn honesty first. We are called to awaken to the truth of our own shadow, or blemishes and are being shown that vulnerability is a fuller expression of our humanity. We can begin to see how we continue to inflict suffering on ourselves and on others. To achieve this, is uncomfortable for you, but if we examine our thoughts and our actions openly, which is to be. Embracing the shadow in ourselves, it is much easier to embrace others too. Therefore, love, given and received, is also much more possible with greater acceptance of what is not love. Perhaps for the first time in this life we begin to learn what Love with a capital L, is really is.
Black night is all about self-acceptance. It is very difficult to do, but not impossible. As Carl Jung said: "The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely." But as we move into the night, our pain can be understood and gradually released and the truth of his divine self eternal can not be given space to finally surface.
The real despair in the heart of human beings is a feeling of being separated from everything and everybody, including and especially God, or Universe. The dark night is an opportunity to discover that there is a wholeness, a unity in itself, down to - and dissolves slowly - this feeling of separation.
As we see the truths about our own shadow or pain, the ego begins to recede from its primary position. This implies a great relegation agony for a human being.
