How John DeLorean Created Movement Muscle Car U.S. Most of us think of John DeLorean as the man behind the car of steel butterfly from the rear to the Future movies nut the fact of the matter is that his contribution to the automotive world go much further than that. DeLorean was actually the creator of the muscle car revolution in the United States. Think about how different the sports car industry would be today if we had not had the time of performance cars.
In 1964, DeLorean was with Pontiac and he decided to completely recreate the Tempest with a huge V8 engine high performance. The car became known as the GTO, also known as the goat in the adoration of fans and remains to this day one of the cars of all time favorite muscle. The GTO was a great success for the Pontiac trigger huge sales volume and has led manufacturers to do the same.
His creativity outside the box earned him advanced to the upper echelons of the automotive industry, but its independent free thought was not really built for that and he ended up leaving the course and his own company to do things own way.
Leaving his past behind him fruit, Detroit, opened his own DeLorean car plant in Northern Ireland with the idea rather ambitious competition against the Big Three automakers as it had helped in the 1960s. His namesake, the DeLorean DMC-12 is a single brushed stainless steel sports car with innovative valve to Gull wing doors. The car has never really taken off and is less than nine miles ever sold. However, the vehicle has been responsible for many innovations for years to come.
DeLorean with Preston Tucker were the two individuals who are stubborn forward thinking way ahead of their time revolutionary introduction of advanced vehicles. Although their product ideas did not take off in their time they influenced the future of the automotive industry.
In 1999 DeLorean was hoping to return to the automotive world with a sports car that would be a price lower than 20k and is mostly plastic high. It seemed he was ready for a recovery, but he never came and he died in 2004.
It will be interesting to see how the new Tesla Motor Company does high performance electric car, the founder says he was influenced by DeLorean and Tucker. The car No. 60 in under 4 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.
