Hiroshima Mon Amour"Film as Literature" - A series of monthly lectures to Open Space


Open Space is that both the organization of a monthly series, entitled Cinema as documentaion. Open Space, has been using various means such as audio-visual features and documentaries, short films and PSAs that awareness outreach tools through regular screenings of film festivals and lively discussions . In continuation of its efforts, Open Space has launched a monthly series, entitled "Film as Literature" which will focus on cinema as a means of social, economic and historical documentation, while exploring other aspects of environment such as art and aesthetics. Each conference will be followed by a viewing of a film the next day.

"The filming of" Metropolis, the first lecture in the series, discuss the story as a series of parallel narratives recorded through the film through the perspective of some film history of the 20th century. Through audio-visual conference will guide the viewer to watch a big city to a particular period of history through the cinematic language of non-linearity that transforms raw materials, namely the city in the character Central film.

The conference will be chaired by Ajit Duar, film critic, film script writer and film studies professor who divides his time between Pune and Mumbai. He has been writing since 1984 and teaching since 1990. He completed his studies in English (with honors) from St. Stephens College, New Delhi, and an MA in Film Studies / Critical Columbia University, New York City.

Screening of feature film, Hiroshima Mon Amour (Dir: Alain Resnais). Hiroshima Mon Amour tells the story of a French actress who plays the role of a nurse in a film shot in post-war Hiroshima. There she meets a Japanese man. Using flashbacks interspersed in this story of love today, the woman recounts her experiences during the Second World War in France during the German occupation and the consequences when the war ended. The film combines fiction and documentary.
