In the book Everything Is Illuminated, Lista and Augustine are the same woman? Who was the father of the Lista / baby Augustine? I have some ideas but I'm not sure. What is the relationship between Lista / Augustine and grandfather (grandfather of Alex) during the war? In the film Everything is Illuminated, what say sunflowers? I have some ideas on this subject (sunflowers turn toward the sun to be "enlightened" - might be assassinated in 1204 representing Trachimbrod souls looking for answers?) But we want to hear what others say. I loved the book and movie. Bright, two of them.
I wondered the same thing, but I do not think we're supposed to know what their relationships are. I am an English teacher, and I am rarely blocked, so I have to believe that we are not supposed to know, but rather focus on the idea of memory, the central theme of the novel.
I read an interview with Foer, in which he says that the "light" in the title is in reference to a passage where he explains how all those who love to create bursts of light that can be seen from the 'Outer Space.
When I read the book, I thought they might be the same woman. The film does not feel that it does.
