How an American tourist to get a prescription filled at Paris, France? I am an American visiting Paris, and due to a miscalculation in packaging my medication, I just found out that I'm going to run out of certain prescription drug one day earlier. It is a very important drug that can not be skipped. How can a U.S. citizen with an American doctor to get a prescription filled here in France?
My father was in France on holiday and lost her medication (handbag was stolen from my mother) and took an order and opened the package and instructions for medicine with them on vacation (no handbag fortunately).
With that, he was able to get a new refill. However, if you do not open a prescription and the pharmacist can refuse to give you medicine if it is prescription only in France.
However, pop in a room (the chief pharmacist will more than likely to speak a reasonable level of English) and will be able to confirm that the procedure is otherwise. Take along the packaging, instructions and a confirmation that you have about medicine.
Good luck
You can, but you will need to consult a local doctor who could be time consuming, costly and a barrier langauge could be difficult. In addition, all drugs are available in other countries. You must make sure that yours is available before you go see a doctor.
Ask your doctor or fax email you your order (with the chemical name, not only the brand name), and a description of your condition. Take a pharmacist, you will note the sign flashing green.
If France has similar laws in the U.S., you can not fill a prescription by a doctor abroad.
