......................? Amazing Grace Did John Newton of the British operator who wrote Amazing Grace Slave helping William Wilberforce abolished slavery in Great Britain and the British Empire?
I watched the film Amazing Grace a few years ago, he talked to John Newton, William Wilberforce, giving words of encouragement for the abolition of the slave trade, did we get here?
It is possible that he gave advice to the beginning of his career. Williamforce and Newton have undergone both major conversion experience that led them into the Christian abolitionist movement. Newton would have been a minister of aging (after being ordered by a parishioner impressed with his conversion story) when he met Wilberforce.
Having been a major force behind the British abolition movement, Williamforce would probably have been introduced in Newton at a given time, and it is very likely to have encouraged his work. The Slave Trade Act (Abolition of Commerce in Great Britain), adopted in 1807, the same year that Newton's death. Wilberforce lived just long enough to know that slavery was for some will be deleted.
He was also a friend of William Pitt.
The film is quite faithful to history. Historians have very large files held through personal papers and diaries. In fact, much of what is called the slave trade of the 18th century is known or verified by documents of Newton.
I think you will find that Mr. Newton has inspired Wilberforce in his crusade against slavery.
Wilberforce was what we call a born again Christian and he felt he had to fight against the slave trade. Wilberforce had heard "Amazing Grace" and heard the story of how it was written. He looked Rev. Newton spoke of the slave trade how it worked and how Newton was engaged in commerce. With this Wilberforce became the greatest opponent of slavery there were in Great Britain.
If you have not already done it to see the film "Amazing Grace" is the story of William Wilberforce and his fight to abolish slavery.
