A Man for All Seasons "4 stars (excellent)

A Man for All Seasons poses the question: What would a man sacrifice for his principles?

When King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) seeks approval to divorce his aging wife Catherine of Aragon could not give birth to a son, and marry his mistress Anne Boleyn, the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church stand in the path.

Ultimately, Sir Thomas is the only person in England who will die for his principles, and commit to God for the trial. He is betrayed by an ambitious attorney general lower level named Richard (John Hurt), whose outright lie condemns Sir Thomas to be beheaded.

Sir Thomas More loses his head (no pun intended), but more importantly, its soul. Sir Thomas is later canonized as Saint Thomas More by the Roman Catholic Church.

Henry VIII subsequently dies of syphilis, and the evil Thomas Cromwell who orchestrates Sir Thomas More's tragic end is itself considered a traitor to England 5 years later and was also beheaded.

The riff then leads to split England from the Roman Catholic Church and the establishment of the Anglican Church, the Church of England.

The last days of my father's life were spent in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Florida. He was succumbing to what has been coined by laymen as "rich man's cancer" - Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. How ironic, I thought. You see, my father began his career as a minister in poor Asia, arrived in America with a scholarship from the church, later earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral (among many other academic achievements), and finally retired as a senior U.S. official government services.

On admission to hospital, I was summoned by him (via my mother). Since it has never, never asked me after I left, I knew that this moment must be serious, and I did not hesitate. I thought my daughter 2 ½ years and took the long trip to the States. When I was not to my daughter (which usually means when she slept) in my mind I relived my younger years. Because traveling from Asia to America (Florida) has more than one day, I had much time to reflect on the special relationship I had with my father.

During these last days of his life my father and I talked and talked and talked - until the cancer he was suffering from finally claimed his life.

While most pain would replay inner thinking of the death of their father (much less write about it), I consider myself lucky. Few people have the opportunity to tell their loved ones their true feelings before it's too late. I am forever grateful for the opportunity given me to tell my father how much I loved him, envied for its achievements in life and how I felt honored to be his son.

I could not help but admire his unwavering (and infectious) Faith in God, people, and life - including life we enjoy after physical death.

Listening to his sincere gratitude for everything in his life made me realize how I am in the identification of good things in my own life. His contentment was carried by a life of love, accomplishment and service to others.

"I'm not afraid to die. My life up to this point has been long and rewarding, and great adventure of faith and love. When I die, it will be like a planned, restful sleep after a wonderful day of life. Plus, I can go home and see loved ones who have gone before me. My only regret and concern is your mother. Texas Tech University is represented by the team from Texas Tech Raiders Football. They are part of the Big 12 Conference, a Division 1 Bowl Subdivision (or formerly known as Division IA) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
